Journey Through Zambia 2024
This past season of missions in Zambia has been one of the most transformative and humbling experiences of my life. From preparing our hearts during training in Charleston to stepping into ministry in Kitwe, Lusaka, and Ngangula, the Lord’s presence and faithfulness were evident in every step of the journey.
Arriving in Kitwe
After a long trip with layovers in New York and Ethiopia and a 10-hour bus ride, we arrived in Kitwe, where we stayed on the property of an orphanage and primary school. The days were full—filled with evangelism, worship, and deep conversations. Ministry included sharing the gospel with local university students, street evangelism, and spending time loving on the children in the orphanage.
One day, while ministering in a rougher part of town, I spoke with a group of women struggling with alcohol addiction. They shared how drinking was their way of coping with pain and hurt. We prayed together and talked about Jesus. As the Spirit moved, these women made the courageous decision to pour out their alcohol in front of us, symbolizing their surrender to Christ. It was a beautiful moment that reminded me of the transformative power of the gospel.
The Lord also used this week to work deeply in my heart. He began breaking the chains of shame and grief that had defined my identity for so long. He showed me that I am not defined by my past but by His love—I am His beloved daughter, pure, righteous, and blameless. Kitwe itself has seen so much transformation since my last visit; the local church has tripled in size and has already planted two additional churches. It’s a testament to how God is moving in this community.
Lusaka Ministry
After leaving Kitwe, we spent time in Lusaka, where we partnered with local ministries to evangelize in urban compounds heavily affected by poverty. One day, while ministering in a busy market, we faced challenges, including mockery and skepticism. Yet, even in the midst of chaos, God gave us boldness to preach the gospel. We witnessed healings, including a young boy whose hearing was restored, and many people encountered the love of Christ for the first time.
One highlight of Lusaka was spending time with street children. We climbed into the sewage areas where they live, surrounded by brokenness and addiction. These children, many as young as eight, have endured unimaginable hardship. Despite this, we saw God’s grace at work as we prayed with them and shared His love. Some even sobered up enough to have meaningful conversations about their lives and families. The ministry partner we worked with, himself a former street child, continues to dedicate his life to rescuing these kids and helping them find freedom in Christ.
Ngangula: Ministry in the Bush
Next, we traveled to Ngangula, a remote village in the Zambian bush. With no electricity or running water, we stayed in simple huts and fully embraced the way of life there. Our days began at 4:30 a.m. with worship and prayer as we sought the Lord’s guidance for each day. Ministry involved walking house-to-house to share the gospel and nightly crusades held in a small church deep in the mountains.
The area was spiritually heavy, known for witchcraft and fear. Yet, we saw God move powerfully, bringing revival and healing. One night, we marched around the church declaring it holy ground, and on the final lap, we shouted the name of Jesus, worshiping with abandon. That night, 18 people surrendered their lives to Christ. The joy of seeing lives transformed was indescribable.
Personally, God broke my heart for the people of Ngangula. I felt the weight of their struggles but also His deep love for them. He reminded me that He is the Good Shepherd, and I am one of His sheep. Though I sometimes wander, He always comes to find me, guiding me back to His truth and love.
Rest and Reflection in Livingstone
After the intense ministry in Ngangula, we spent a few days resting in Livingstone. We visited Victoria Falls, a breathtaking reminder of God’s power and beauty. This time of fellowship and reflection allowed us to recharge before heading back into the field.
The Journey’s Impact
This trip wasn’t just about the lives touched in Zambia—it was also about the transformation God brought in my own heart. I was reminded that ministry is not about my abilities but about His power working through me. He redefined my identity, calling me His beloved and equipping me to serve with boldness and love.
As I reflect on this journey, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity to be part of God’s work in Zambia. From the children in the orphanage to the street kids in Lusaka and the unreached in Ngangula, I saw firsthand the beauty of the gospel and the depth of His love for all people.
Thank You
Thank you to everyone who supported me through prayer, encouragement, and donations. Your partnership made this mission possible. Please continue to pray for the people of Zambia, for the local ministries we worked with, and for the continued spread of the gospel.
To God be the glory for all that was accomplished.
